In La Puebla de Montalbán (Toledo), a town with a great cultural tradition, among other things because it is the birthplace of Fernando de Rojas, a large group of people, who in turn organize a cinema-club and a reading club, have experienced with its activities the link that exists between cinema and literature.
In the world of cinema, -referring to contests, exhibitions or festivals-, the lack of recognition of the work of the filmmakers of the "Seventh Art" who make films on adapted scripts is widespread. It is important to note that this "vacuum" is very significant in the face of the countless events that recognize and reward the quality and validity of the original script.
The movie scripts adapted to a work, whose previous support was the text or the image of a novel, essay, theater, or graphic like in the comic ..., do not have, from our point of view, a space in that type of events that turn the public into something more than mere spectators. These spectators become active "critics" before a newly vertebrate work.
The interest that awakens for all public or reader, lover of the culture in general, the knowledge and exchange of feelings or reflections with the creators in the different disciplines of culture, literature, painting, music, etc., and in this case the cinema, has led us to consider the birth of this "Film and Word Festival".
This Festival aspires to create a meeting space where aspects that go beyond the existence of a mere adapted film script can be accommodated, opening up to many other facets of the cultural and intellectual life of our country, our region, and its relationship with the world of celluloid All people who are part of the organization belong to the Cultural Association "The wind of the moon" and it is a work that is done without any profit.
The first edition, held in November 2009, was a public success and had a great reception among professionals and film fans. We had the presence of several well-known names and we had the honor of welcoming the premiere of the latest film by Vicente Aranda, "Luna Caliente". The director himself and the actress Thäis Blume shared the screening with us. In 2010 we took a step further and professionals such as Terele Pávez, Esperanza Roy, Javier Aguirre, David Castillo, Andrés Migueláñez, Carlos F. Heredero and Antonio Santamarina, Paula Cancio, Gustavo Ron and Miguel Gallardo were with us.
The year 2011 was the definitive year to consolidate a film festival, which is much more than that. Among the films screened, we had four premieres (both regional and national) and among the names of the guests are José Luis García Sánchez, Silvia Marsó, Canco Rodríguez, Adrián Lastra, Adriana Torrebejano, Pedro García Aguado, Silvia Alonso, David Early , Paco Roca ... and although they could not accompany us, they left us some words in video María León and Pedro Almodóvar.
In this new edition we continue to bet on the same idea within the framework of a shared headquarters, for the second time, between Toledo and La Puebla de Montalbán, with a broad program that covers a large number of cinematographic and literary aspects.
We do not want to miss the opportunity to ratify our commitment to culture despite the bad times.
Our interest is not that of being a broad and free showcase that allows for reflection and critical thinking through the marriage between literature and cinema to contribute to the formation of a civil society prepared for the challenges of the most immediate future .
Finally, we can only record our gratitude to all those who in one way or another help us to take this project forward year after year. Without them this "madness" would be impossible.
