We are very pleased to welcome you to the 96th Congress of the German Society for Neurology in Berlin from November 8th to 11th.
At this congress we deliberately focused on neurodegenerative diseases, because a lot has happened here in the last few years and months. Promising therapeutic approaches are on the horizon; molecular biological research has provided important insights into the pathomechanisms, so that more precise and earlier diagnostic options and targeted therapeutic approaches could be developed. Neurodegenerative diseases have therefore become much more visible and relevant to our field; this is where the innovative strength of neurology is currently crystallizing in a special way. At the same time, neurodegenerative diseases are of enormous social importance because they affect many people; just think of the increasing numbers of Parkinson's disease and dementia.
The topic of neurodegeneration is the leitmotif of the congress program. In the opening event, Dunja Hayali from ZDF-heute-journal discusses aging from a societal perspective with various colleagues, at the Presidential Symposium we examine the topic of neurodegenerative diseases from a scientific perspective and in the concluding symposium “Quo vadis” we would like to provide an outlook the future, also show possible solutions that could, for example, lie in improved prevention efforts.
But of course the congress offers a lot more in terms of topics: The steering group, in collaboration with the DGN Advanced Training Academy and Young Neurology, has put together an attractive program that covers the entire range of our subject and brings together scientific excellence and practice-relevant content.
