FRAN is the dictionary portal of the Fran Ramovš Institute for the Slovenian Language, ZRC SAZU, on which basic language manuals for Slovenian are available to users.
Searching the manuals is fast, simple and free. Are you interested in the meaning in SSKJ or eSSKJ, information about the entry from Pravopis or ePravopis? Synonyms, idioms, linking? New Slovenian words? Are you interested in etymology, history, terminology or the use of a certain word in dialects? You can find all this with the help of Fran.
You can search all manuals at once, selected manuals or a single one.
Contains:
• more than 35 dictionaries,
• language atlas,
• language and terminology consultancy,
• portal of Slovenian grammars and spellings and other collections.
To use the portal, we don't need any special prior knowledge, as Fran can meaningfully edit the information from the manuals himself and help us with their interpretation. Search results complement each other and show us the properties and use of individual words from different perspectives.
Fran is interactive. Through the portal, you can propose consideration of new words and vote for them, ask language consultants for advice or suggest additions or corrections to existing dictionary compositions.
Fran is growing, as we upgrade it once a year with new language content.
