Dubai is the capital of an emirate of the same name, one of the seven that make up the United Arab Emirates.
It rises along the coast of the Persian Gulf, in the Arabian peninsula, in a desert territory. Dubai is known for its luxury shops, ultramodern buildings and lively night scene. Burj Khalifa, an 830m tower, stands out among the skyscrapers of the cityscape. At its foot is the Dubai Fountain, whose splashes of water create choreographies with music and lights. On the artificial islands not far from the coast is Atlantis The Palm, a resort with water parks and marine animals.
