The institution of the Christian religion (in the original French L'Institution de la religion chrétienne) is a treatise on theology written by John Calvin. It was first published in Latin in 1536, and then translated into French by himself in 1541.
In this work the doctrine of the Reformation is developed systematically, as Calvin promoted it. Through his text, he emphasizes the contrast between the total power of God and the smallness of man, lost by original sin. Since that sin has made him fall, man has become corrupt in his nature and has been deprived of his free will. Their state depends on divine grace and the beneficiaries have been chosen in a predestined way.
This book was one of the first theological treatises written in a language different from Latin. Classic Christian book based entirely on the Bible, with numerous biblical passages.
