Since 1987, the Mutual Carlos Mugica develops intervention strategies in a direct way around the formation and strengthening of grassroots organizations in disadvantaged towns and neighborhoods of the city of Córdoba, favoring community development from a socio-educational perspective and contributing to the consolidation of the identity of social actors.
As a central strategy of their actions, in 1989 the "La Ranchada Community Radio" was created as an unpublished cultural event, since it was the first time that a modulated frequency station broadcast the popular music of Córdoba (Quartet), which is precisely the one that most represented and identified the sectors of poor towns and neighborhoods of Córdoba. This identification with the medium and the massive appropriation that was produced served so that these same sectors used the radio almost spontaneously to make their voices heard, until that moment totally absent from the discourse of the mass media.
From its origins, the RADIO LA RANCHADA favored the dissemination of actions of the popular sectors of the city of Córdoba to problems in different areas of intervention such as social habitat, health, nutrition, childhood and adolescence, work and development productive experiences, education, trade union activity and the reality of vulnerable groups, which led to the strengthening of numerous organizational processes of the inhabitants of the poor neighborhoods of Córdoba. Since this action has also been promoted, strengthened and accompanied sectoral coordination processes, which led to the consolidation of multiactoral spaces around policies, programs and social projects agreed between organizations and public institutions, private and civil society, such as the Union of Grassroots Organizations for Social Rights and the Round Table of Social Policies between 1992 and 1999.
Among the main achievements of the Radio is the fact that - at the request of a judicial presentation against the law of the military dictatorship 22.285 that prohibited the cooperatives and mutuals from owning FM radio stations, in September In 2003 the Supreme Court of Justice ruled that Article 45 of said Broadcasting Law is unconstitutional, with which, starting with this case initiated by Mutual Carlos Mugica-La Ranchada, an important precedent of national and international impact was set for the normalization of numerous Radios of the entire Argentine Republic.
