Mali, officially the Republic of Mali is a landlocked country in West Africa. Mali is the seventh largest country in Africa, bordered by Algeria to the south, Niger to the east, Burkina Faso and Cote d'Ivoire to the north, Guinea to the northwest, and Senegal and Mauritania to the west. The highest mountain in the country is Hhonbori Tondo at 1155bm. While under French rule, it was known as French Sudan after its name, after independence from the British (1960).
