First steps
The history of the Church Reborn in Christ began around the year 1985. At that time, the Apostle Estevam Hernandes and his family, suffering the effects of religiosity, were invited to leave the church of which they were part. Many people have expressed a desire to follow them, but the Apostle has always made it clear that he was not going out to share the church. Since they were ministering and accompanying a couple, they continued the work and other couples joined the group. The meetings took place at the house on Ônix Street, 46, which soon became too small to accommodate so many people. It was then that they decided to rent a place for the meetings. This place was a lounge on the top floor of the old Livorno pizzeria, located on Rua Vergueiro, in the neighborhood of Vila Mariana, in São Paulo.
Responsibility for the work and fear of the Lord caused the Apostle to think about ending the meeting and directing the people to an established church. However, there was no longer any way to resist, for it was really God's will that a new ministry should begin there. A ministry that would revolutionize the evangelical environment, bringing a new vision of what it is to have Jesus in the heart: RENASCER IN CHRIST!
Already as a sign of what would be one of the hallmarks in our ministry - prosperity - the pizzeria began to thrive and the owner asked for the salon that was being used for the meetings. The Church, then, had its officially documented beginning on March 12, 1986.
The Arab Church
It was necessary to get another place to house the nascent church. Having practically searched the entire neighborhood, passing the Arab Evangelical Church - in the neighborhood of Paraíso, in São Paulo - the Holy Spirit spoke with the Apostle that this was the place. They then talked to the pastor of the church and it was agreed that the services would be held there. To receive and support the growth of the church, the site underwent a renovation and had its physical space expanded through the retreat of the altar wall.
The church grew steadily. Monday's meetings, held in the garage of the building, attracted young and young people who gave themselves over to Jesus and were delivered from drugs. The beginning of the band Katsbarnea happened at this moment in the history of the church and was a landmark that revolutionized gospel music in Brazil. Artists who performed at night, now fully freed, played for Jesus and attracted crowds of young people. It was a powerful moment in the history of our ministry.
A Lins
The Apostle's desire was for the church to have its own building. It was there that the Lord used a pastor to bring a prophetic word that God would give the newborn church a wonderful building, in an excellent region and in one detail: it would have a bus stop at the door. The search for the building began, until one day, the Bishop Sônia, passing in front of the building of Lins, shouted, saying: "Look at the building you are about to sell!" The place had already housed a cinema and a car agency. On the first visit to the place, the presence of God was very strong and He confirmed the promise that that place would be of the church.
When the news was given to the people, what Moses lived was when the spies came to see the land. Caleb and Joshua believed, but the other ten spies infamously denounced the land, saying that it was impossible to conquer it. Some were incredulous about the purchase of that building, since the value to human eyes was astronomical. A campaign was started for the purchase of the Lins building. The challenge was launched and the people got involved by donating jewelry, money, valuables, among many other offerings. Soon after, the building was donated to the church, continuing the Lord's move, which led the Church to conquer other buildings and expand its action throughout Brazil and the world. Today, there are more than 400 churches in Brazil and abroad that carry the Word of God and the apostolic movement to all peoples and nations!
