SOSTransfer2Transform™ (SOS-T2T™) is a Decent Work Movement - a private-public partnership with African Governments putting all African hands-on deck, diasporans, low-skilled, high-skilled and first degree-holding African youth, to insist and ensure that African youth get a big piece of the Global and local Decent work pie to bust the African Youth Unemployment challenge facing many African countries.
SOS-T2T™ has three key components all focused on decent work creation for African youth on the continent through direct invest opportunities with diaspora engagement to create jobs locally or five-year work-study STEM programs in the US, Canada, EU, Australia, Singapore, UK or in two-year temporary migration programs, mostly in Europe and in the GCC.
Piloted first in Ghana in 2018, the SOSTransfer2Transform™ movement is now in full roll out in Sierra Leone where the Cabinet of the Government of Sierra Leone has approved SOS-T2T™ in April 2021, for national implementation after the lifting of a two-year ban on migration.
SOS-T2T™ is the brain child of Her Excellency Rev. Dr. Asie Kabuki Ocansey, founder of the Nekotech Center for Labour Migration Diplomacy, CEO of SOS Labour Ghana and SOS Global Investments - Ghana and Sierra Leone. "African youth need a hand up, not hand-outs and they deserve nothing short of decent work and vast opportunities to help them to succeed, said H.E. Rev. Dr. Ocansey. 'We have digitalised the entire migration process and have set up social protection systems to ensure decent work and the full safety of each person in this program”, she further said.
Minister of Labour and Social Security of Sierra Leone, Hon. Alpha O. Timbo said: "We see SOSTransfer2Transform™ as a game-changing program for our people as it also has a built-in remittance boosting system which provides for 50% of all salaries of our migrants to be saved for the worker in a bank account they open in Sierra Leone in their own name before they travel overseas. In this case too, should the employer withhold the workers' salaries we would know and the SOS-T2T™ system will alert the employer- which is a breakthrough. We have so many stories of our ladies, especially, who go on their own to work overseas and many of them come back penniless, because the employers never paid them. Now through SOS-T2T™, that will change, because the employer knows we are watching!" indicated the Hon. Minister.
"The best part is that, this allows us to track each citizen of Sierra Leone leaving our shores. We also know that through SOS-T2T™ they are going into Decent Work, and even if there are issues, we have a responsible system in place to care for them and to resolve their migration issues. This is the better way to go proactively, instead of using a ban”, he further explained.
SOS-T2T™ has an app and a unique portal, built with high social protection mechanisms to put the power of Decent Work directly into the hands of each African youth in partnership with their governments. SOS T2T™ is ready to be rolled out to all interested African Governments.
