Stumbling blocks is the project of the artist Gunter Demnig. These plaques are intended to commemorate the fate of those who were persecuted, murdered, deported, expelled or driven into suicide during the National Socialist era. The stumbling blocks are block-shaped concrete blocks with an edge length of 96 × 96 millimeters and a height of 100 millimeters, on top of which there is an individually inscribed brass plate. They are usually taken in front of the last freely chosen homes of the Nazi victims at the same level in the pavement of the sidewalk. There are now around 45,000 stones not only in Germany, but also in 17 other European countries.
