Description of كتاب الاذكار للامام النووي

The book Hilyat al-Abarar wa Shahaar al-Akhyar, called al-Adhkar - by Imam Abu Zakariya Yahya bin Sharaf al-Nawawi al-Dimashqi, who died in the year: /676 AH/
The book is self-explanatory and is needed by every monotheist of Allah.

Introduction by the author:
Praise be to Allah, the One, the Subduer, the Mighty, the Forgiving, the Decider of destinies, the Disposer of affairs, the One who turns the night into the day, as insight for those with hearts and sight, who awakened from among His creation those He chose and included them among the best, and guided those He chose from among His servants and made them among the close and righteous ones, and gave insight to those who loved Him and made them renounce this world, so they strove to please Him and prepare for the eternal home, and avoid what angers Him and beware of the torment of the Fire, and they took themselves seriously in obeying Him, and constantly remembering Him in the evening and morning, and when conditions change and at all times of the night and day, so their hearts were illuminated by the gleams of light.

I praise Him with the most eloquent praise for all His blessings, and I ask Him for more of His grace and generosity. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, the Almighty, the One, the Self-Sufficient, the Almighty, the Wise. I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, His chosen one, His beloved, and His intimate friend, the best of creation, and the most honorable of those who came before and those who will come after. May the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him and upon all the prophets and messengers, and upon the family of each of them and all the righteous.

Now then:
1- Allah, the Almighty, the Wise, said: {So remember Me; I will remember you} [Al-Baqarah: 152] and He, the Most High, said: {And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me} [Adh-Dhariyat: 56]. 2- The scholars - may Allah be pleased

with them - have compiled many books on the work of the day and night, supplications and remembrances that are known to the knowers, but they are lengthy in chains of transmission and repetition, so the determination of the seekers has weakened. So I intended to make that easy for those who desire it; so I began to compile this book, summarizing the objectives (1) of what I mentioned to make it easy for those who care, and I omitted the chains of transmission in most of it because I mentioned preferring brevity and because it is intended for the worshippers, and they are not looking forward to knowing the chains of transmission, but they hate it even if it is short, except for a few; and because the purpose of it is to know the remembrances and act upon them and clarify their places (2) for those seeking guidance. And I will mention - God willing - instead of the chains of transmission what is more important than them and what is often missing, which is the statement of the authentic hadiths and their good, weak and rejected, because it is something that all people need to know except for the rare ones among the hadith scholars, and this is the most important thing that must be taken care of and what the student must achieve from the side of the skilled memorizers and the skilled and reliable imams, and I will add to it, God willing, a number of valuable things from the science of hadith and the subtleties of jurisprudence and the important principles and exercises of the soul and manners whose knowledge is confirmed for the seekers, and I will mention everything that I mention in an explanatory manner so that it is easy for the common people and the scholars to understand.

3- We have narrated in Sahih Muslim [No. 2674], on the authority of Abu Hurairah - may God be pleased with him - on the authority of the Messenger of God - may God bless him and grant him peace - who said: “Whoever calls to guidance will have a reward like that of those who follow him, without it diminishing anything from their reward.” [To be mentioned under No. 1606]

4- I wanted to help the people of goodness by facilitating his path, pointing to it, clarifying his behavior and guiding them to it, so I mention at the beginning of the book important chapters that the author of this book and others who care about it need; and if there is one among the companions who is not famous to those who do not care about knowledge, I point him out, so I say: We narrated from so-and-so the companion, so that his companionship is not doubted.

5- I limit myself in this book to the hadiths in the famous books that are the foundations of Islam, and they are five: “Sahih al-Bukhari,” “Sahih Muslim,” “Sunan Abi Dawud,” “Tirmidhi,” and “An-Nasa’i.” I may narrate a little from other famous books.

6- As for the parts and chains of transmission, I do not quote anything from them except in rare places, and I do not mention from the famous foundations of the weak except the rare with a statement of its weakness, but I usually mention the authentic ones in it (3), so I hope that this book will be a reliable foundation.

7- Then I do not mention from the chapter of the hadiths except what its indication is clear in the issue.

8- And from Allah the Generous, I ask for success, repentance, assistance, guidance and protection; and to facilitate what I intend of good deeds, and to continue in various types of honors, and to unite me with my loved ones in the abode of His honor and all aspects of pleasure.

9- And Allah is sufficient for me, and He is the best Disposer of affairs, and there is no power or strength except with Allah, the Almighty, the Wise, whatever Allah wills, there is no power except with Allah, I put my trust in Allah, I hold fast to Allah, I seek help from Allah, I entrust my affair to Allah, and I entrust to Him (4) my religion, myself, my parents, my brothers, my loved ones, and all those who have been good to me, and all Muslims, and all that He has bestowed upon me and them of the affairs of the Hereafter and the world, for He, glory be to Him, when He is entrusted with something, He preserves it, and He is the best Preserver.
