Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Catholic Bible
The catechism is the text in which an organic and synthetic exposition of the essential and fundamental contents of the Christian doctrine is presented, both on faith and on morals.
In the case of the Catholic Church, its catechisms are based mainly on the Tradition of the Church interpreted in the light of the Second Vatican Council. Its main sources are the Sacred Scripture, the Holy Fathers, the Liturgy and the Magisterium of the Church. It is intended to serve "as a point of reference for catechisms or compendiums that are composed in different countries" (Synod of Bishops 1985. Final Relation II BA 4).
There is an in-depth version promulgated on October 11, 1992 by John Paul II and the Compendium, promulgated by Pope Benedict XVI on June 28, 2005, which is a faithful and sure synthesis of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It contains, in a concise way, all the essential and fundamental elements of the Church's faith, in such a way that it constitutes, according to what was described in his presentation by the Pope "a kind of vademecum, through which people, believers or not, they can cover with a single glance the whole panorama of the Catholic faith ".
