Pantai is located in Manjung County, Perak. It is a small fishing village with simple folk customs, quiet and leisurely. There is a Chinese independent middle school -- Yuqing Secondary School.
In the 1960s, there was no middle school in Pantai town, and only a small number of local children had the ability to go to middle school outside the slope after graduating from elementary school. Therefore, the ancestors tried hard to build a national-style middle school, but they were not approved by the Education Bureau. It was only then that he decided to change the plan and start an independent middle school.
Yuqing Middle School covers an area of 20 acres, and the existing school land is 13 acres. Founded in 1962, the school was named "Yuqing", which means cultivating youth.
Yuqing Secondary School is the last independent Chinese secondary school established in Perak and West Malaysia. It has just crossed a century.
Yuqing Secondary School welcomed the first batch of 139 students in 1962. It leased the MCA as a temporary school building for a period of one year. It was only in 1963 that it moved to the current school site for classes. With the increase in the number of students, under the leadership of the late first chairman Cai Youyi, the board of directors started construction on the current school site to complete all the hardware and software equipment.
The number of students increased year by year, and school affairs flourished. Later, due to changes in education laws, by the end of 1969, there were only dozens of students left, and the school was on the verge of closure.
In 1973, the revival movement of Perak Independent High School finally revived the Independent High School. The number of students began to rebound, and the school affairs developed steadily. In 1984, the number of students reached a peak, with a total of 457 students.
In the following years, the number of students declined again. In 2011, there were only 192 students in the school, and Yuqing Middle School became a miniature independent school. Later, under the leadership of the current chairman, Zheng Xiaochuan, the teaching equipment was upgraded, and finally in 2016, with 302 students, it was promoted from a micro independent high school to a small independent high school.
Yuqing Secondary School does not have student dormitories, and most of the students come from the five districts of Pantai, namely Pantai, Shuangli Buddha, Songxi Batu, Segari, and Mo Zhenwai. At present, the school has 378 students, 30 teachers, and 7 staff members.
The school system is a six-year system, that is, three years in junior high school and three years in high school, with the unified examination as the mainstay. After the students pass the senior high school entrance examination diploma, they can apply to enter local private colleges and universities, or go to foreign colleges and universities for further study. Students can also apply for the Malaysian Diploma of Education (SPM) by themselves.
