Jenni and Trix strolled along the dirt path, enjoying the sunshine. Suddenly a bush rustled ahead, causing the pair to duck behind a tree.
“The peaceful times never last!” muttered Trix.
They looked on as the bush rustled faster. Suddenly out popped an aloof cat, peeking around, and then ducking back as quickly as it had appeared.
“Did you see that thing?!” Trix scowled. “It was obviously up to no good. We should keep an eye out.”

“I feel like we’ve stepped into a rainbow colored nightmare,” Trix muttered. “Everything keeps changing colors.”
The pair climbed up a cliff to be met with a gaping hole below them.
“I don’t care how many dinosaurs, wizards, or dragons we’ve met on our journey!” Trix shouted. “I’m tired of all these floating bridges!”
Jenni chuckled and picked Trix up, putting her foxy friend on top of her head.

Jenni and Trix sat by the water’s edge to cool off from the hot sun. In the distance, they could hear a voice singing.
“I could listen to thea voice all day!” Trix said as her ears perked up.
“Be careful. That's a mermaid. They can make anyone do their bidding,” Jenni responded.
“That doesn’t mean she’ll use her powers for evil. Don’t be so presumptuous.”
“You’re right, Trix!” Jenni said. “I shouldn’t judge just based on her being a mermaid!”

Jenni and Trix marched forward as a treeline became visible before them. A faint glow could be seen coming from inside.
“No thank you,” Trix said, immediately turning around. “I’m okay with not getting abducted.”
“Oh no you don’t,” Jenni said. “This forest is home to the Lost Light. And the bandits are sure to want to nab their magical essence. We need to stop them!”
“Fine, fine,” Trix grumbled. “But I expect belly rubs when this is all done.”

Jenni and Trix marched forward as a treeline became visible before them. A faint glow could be seen coming from inside.

A screech filled the air and Trix immediately hopped behind Jenni, cowering in fear.
“What was that?!” she yelped. “It better not be a dinosaur.”
“Relax,” Jenni laughed as she took Trix’s head and turned it skyward. “It IS a dinosaur, but a harmless one!”
Above them flew a petite winged dinosaur. It landed on a branch and was no bigger than the birds it perched next to.

“Sorry,” Jenni sighed. “It looks like relaxing is going to have to wait. We have work to do!”

As Trix entered one door, Jenny could see her furry friend pop out of another door further along the path. She had figured it out: the doors were portals!
"I think this is some kind of puzzle!" she shouted over the bubbling magma.
"These must have been some kind of shortcut for the miners," pondered Trix. "They could easily carry the gems through this maze using the portals."
"I bet we could use these to get out here..." Jenny murmured to herself.

Meanwhile, Trix had found a very tall tree that stuck out over the fog. "I should climb up, I could probably spot Jenni!"
So Trix scrambled up the tree, reaching the very tallest limbs. Trix squinted down at the mist. Off in the distance, Trix spotted a soft blue glow pulsing in the grey clouds. "That has gotta be her!"

"I know what will help us! I have just the tool for this situation!" yelled Jenni as she excitedly reached into her bag. But she came up barehanded.
"I swear I packed it, I wonder where it could have gone..." she wondered, nose scrunched in concern.

The lillies appeared stable enough to stand on. Trix lightly stepped onto the green pad. The pair continued to move along the river until the far river bank was within reach.
"I cannot wait to reach dry land!" sighed Trix with eyes closed. "Just a few more lillies to jump, and then those big ominous shadows below the water, and we're home free!"
