What is phonological awareness?
Phonological awareness is the awareness of the sounds that make up the words in the language: for example, an opening sound (sound of the beginning of the word), a closing sound (end sound) and understanding that the word consists of sounds that can be disassembled and assembled.
Proper phonological awareness promotes student achievement in reading and writing in first grade.
"Studies that examined the association between phonological awareness and reading have found a high positive correlation between phonological awareness and success in reading tests and predicting such success" (Bentin, 1997).

What's in the app?
The app is accompanied by a locomotive that travels on railroad tracks and passes through different stations: seasons, holidays, jungle and more. The children drive the engine to the station as they please. When they enter the station itself, they practice different skills of phonological awareness. The order of practice is fixed at each station:
* How many words do you hear in a sentence?
The locomotive makes a statement and the child has to click on the correct number, depending on the number of words in the sentence.
*Beads:
Match pairs of illustrations that rhyme with each other by dragging.
* Sound opening?
Matching pairs of illustrations with the same opening sound / dragging an illustration into the appropriate basket, according to the opening sound on it.

How many sounds do you hear in a word?
Children should click on the appropriate number, depending on the number of sounds in the word. (A decomposition of sounds is the decomposition of sub syllables, for example: b-l-b, r-b-b).

The children hear the word when it is said slowly, disintegrated into sounds. They should click on the appropriate illustration of the word spoken.
* Closure sound:
Matching pairs of items with the same closing sound / dragging an illustration into the appropriate basket, depending on the closing sound on it.
Wearing his tail / head:
Manipulating the practice of omitting a syllable from a word. The children should click on the appropriate illustration of the new word that was created after the syllable was omitted. (This practice is only done in connection with some of the topics.)
