On January 28, 2009, the Court of Audit of Mato Grosso installed the Public Prosecutor's Office, giving possession to four Prosecutors, approved in a public competition of tests and titles, carried out throughout 2008. According to the State Constitution, the Public Prosecutor's Office is a permanent institution, essential to the functions of inspection and external control of the public administration of the State and Municipalities of Mato Grosso, entrusting it with the defense of the legal order, democratic institutions and unavailable social and individual interests. Its institutional principles are the unity, indivisibility and principal of them, the functional independence, which guarantees the freedom of action of the members, linking them only to the Law and the Constitution. The Public Prosecutor's Office is composed of four Prosecutors, headed by the Attorney General, chosen from among their peers for a two-year term, and is barred from immediate reinstatement. The Constitution of the Republic and the state Constitution assure the members of the Parquet of Accounts the same rights, guarantees, prerogatives, advantages and prohibitions of the members of the Common Public Prosecution Service. Acting before the Court of Auditors, it is incumbent upon the Public Prosecutor's Office to issue an opinion on all the processes related to external control; participate in the Plenary Sessions; to interpose the remedies provided by law; propose procedural incidents, including the unconstitutionality incident; to propose precautionary measures; represent the Court of Auditors when it becomes aware of illegalities or irregularities in public management; issuing recommendatory notifications; to enforce the decisions of the Court; request documents and information, among other measures provided by law. With the creation of the Special Public Prosecutor's Office, the Court of Audit of Mato Grosso will gain more autonomy, and will no longer depend on the assignment of Public Prosecutors of the State Public Prosecution, thus adapting itself to the new system of external control established by the Constitution of the Republic. The Public Prosecutor's Office presents itself as another ally of Mato Grosso's society, acting effectively in the exercise of control of the Public Administration, in the fight against corruption and embezzlement of public money, as well as in the defense of the legal order, fundamental rights , democratic institutions and social and individual interests unavailable.
