He is the hafiz and jurist Sayyid Ahmad bin Zayni Dahlan al-Hasani al-Hashemi al-Qurashi al-Makki, Imam of the Two Holy Mosques, the Shafi'i Mufti, jurist and sheikh of the scholars of the Hijaz in his time during the late Ottoman Caliphate. He wrote about Wahhabism and criticized some aspects of the school.
He was born in Mecca in 1231 AH corresponding to 1816 AD, and grew up there. The Dahlan family in Mecca was known as a house of knowledge, religion and learning. Its people were known for their virtuous morals, including humility, compassion, mercy, jihad, struggle, loyalty, and tolerance in dealing with others. They carried affection and a good reputation. Many scholars and historians spoke about them, highlighting their merit and their presence in the service of religion, knowledge and its people.
Ahmed Zeini Dahlan died in Medina in 1304 AH and was buried there.
